SIGHTSEEING: Barcelona is the 11th most visited city in the world according to MasterCard’s Global Destinations Index and 3rd most popular in Europe behind London and Paris. There’s a lot to like in this Olympic City (1992) from the food to the beaches, the weather and the night life. For many visitors however Barcelona is about architecture, especially the work of Antoni Gaudi. His Sagrada Familia in the city center is astounding. Construction began on the church in 1882; it is scheduled for completion in 2026 on the 100th anniversary of Gaudi's death. Azamara ships will almost always dock at the foot of Las Ramblas just steps from the Christopher Columbus statue. You will literally walk off the ship and into the city. No taxi required!

SIGHTSEEING: Sete is France's largest and most important fishing port on the Mediterranean. It is popular for excursions to Carcassonne, an exceptionally preserved medieval city. The unpretentious port of Sète offers a sensuous taste of the unspoiled Mediterranean. It is one of the most fascinating small harbor towns on the French coast precisely because it doesn't go out of its way to be charming. It is home to working people with stuff to ship out and turbot to sell. The site is wonderful encircling a lone hill, the Mont St-Clair, on the otherwise flat Languedoc coast. Its all-but an island with the sea out front and the Thau lagoon – a vast expanse of salt water, colonized by oyster- and mussel-beds behind. Between the two, a network of canals brings the scramble of port and fishing activity right into the town center.
GOLF: Play today at La Grande Motte. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Senior, this famous golf course meanders through the Camargue landscapes, flat layout made of many ponds, home of pink flamingos, ducks and black bulls. Trent Jones has cleverly shaped a high class course on this magnificent land, excellent for long-hitters but where short game will also play a key role.

Mick Jagger added swagger in 1971 when he married at Chapelle Ste-Anne, a small Provençal-style chapel built in 1618 on a hilltop overlooking the Place des Lices. This is where the champagne craving world comes play. Where you can always find the most astounding yachts, the most astounding yacht parties, provocative beaches and the most outrageous night clubs like Les Caves du Roy. There is yet a serene side to this fishing village which you’ll be able to appreciate in advance of the summer apex meaning a meander along the cobbled lanes in the old fishing quarter of La Ponche. Sipping pastis or a rare rosé at a Place des Lices café. Walking along the coastal path. Be sure to sample the town’s namesake cake, La Tarte Tropezienne. The keepsake to bring home is a pair of Rondini Sandals. They can be purchased on line but why would you want to miss the opportunity of running in to almost anybody in their store?
