The original architect was the famed Harry Colt who produced a breathtaking golf links with breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean. In 2015, for the hosting of The Open in 2019, redesign works commenced under the stewardship of Martin Ebert. For the next 18 months, the shifting sands gave way to the building of five new greens, eight new tee boxes, 10 new bunkers and the creation of two new holes, the 7th and 8th, on land which was once part of the Valley Links.
