Pause for a moment to imagine playing two of golf’s most treasured layouts. You won’t need to be a member. You don’t need to be a TOUR player. You simply need to plan ahead.
By that we mean if you want your pick of next year’s times at Muirfield and the Old Course
you should have your schedule ready to book as soon as you can. Thereafter there will be random openings but not nearly the flexibility, particularly at Muirfield where visitor play is only allowed on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
And what a day it is. You play twice; a Fourball in the morning, Foursomes (alternate shot) in the afternoon. Lunch in the clubhouse with coat and tie is a reverent experience. Best of all, this is one of the true treats in golf to have a second go at one of the all time greats. Muirfield was originally designed in 1891 by Old Tom Morris, then modernized by H.S “Harry” Colt in 1925. Sixteen Open Championships have been played on this rumpled and relatively flat piece of East Lothian which has but a single blind shot and a single out of bounds. The first nine plays in a clockwise arc outside of the second nine which plays counter-clockwise. That was Old Tom’s idea designed to produce play into constantly changing wind. This is the venue that Open participants regularly consider their favorite because everything is before you and every shot produces the result it deserves.
Please be aware that Muirfield only accepts fourball bookings.
It’s Not Too Early
Muirfield has always been the rarest tee time in Scotland due to limited visitor access. So, if you intend to play we advise to start soon keeping in mind that bookings made more than 12 months in advance require a reduced deposit of only $500 plus any course specific nonrefundable fees disclosed in advance of booking.
