The PerryGolf team took on the Trump Turnberry team earlier this week over the very recently opened and remodeled Ailsa Course, in what was our 14th annual challenge match.
The changes to the golf course driven and made possible by Donald Trump, and under the supervision of renowned links architect Martin Ebert are simply stunning.

There are numerous changes, every single one adding to the overall quality and appeal of the golf course.

The eight hole stretch which now runs without interruption along the famed coastline from holes 4 through 11 can surely have no rival anywhere in the world of golf.
The most eagerly awaited aspects were the change of the 9th hole from a par four into a par three played beside the lighthouse, and the creation of a stunning new par three 11th hole (boastful note – I birdied it!). Both are outstanding.
Several driving areas are much better defined, as are approaches to greens. One of the most innovative changes is the re-siting of the par three 6th tee higher into the dunes to create a much more memorable hole with traffic from the 5th green rerouted up through the dunes affording a beautiful view of the stunning coastline…a view which in the previous layout was not enjoyed to the fullest.
The 5th and 10th holes now become par fives, the former with a cleverly relocated and elevated green, and the latter with one of the most dramatic approach shots in links golf.
The realigned 14th now becomes a par five taking the green back up to enjoy yet another view of the coastline. The 17th hole is shortened to a par four, and the 18th now a much better defined tee shot with the removal of a wartime bunker and now also boasts a stunning championship tee high in the dunes. Beyond that, every single green complex has been reshaped and rebuilt. The lighthouse also becomes the most memorable halfway house you are likely to find anywhere.

In short, the new Ailsa Course a masterpiece, and one that can only receive rave reviews. There are plenty of opportunities to play it with PerryGolf, so put it on your list!…oh and by the way Turnberry beat PeryGolf – it being their first win in several years!
