Prestwick is Scottish golf royalty. It was founded in 1851 and lies adjacent to Royal Troon along a stretch of Ayrshire coastline as famous as any in the world for prime golfing terrain. It was here in 1860 where the first Open Championship was played and won by Willie Park from Musselburgh with a score of 174 for 36 holes, 2 shots clear of Tom Morris. Prestwick would go on to host 24 Open Championships plus 11 Amateur Championships, the most recent in 2001.

Reader’s Choice Awarded to Turnberry
Travel and Leisure readers have voted the Turnberry Resort as the number one hotel in Scotland. In the 10th annual listing the hotel appears, not only for the very first time, but as the Scottish leader amongst the 500 best hotels and resorts in the world.
The awards are based on the data collected from the World’s Best Awards survey by the magazine’s readership.
Last year, Travel and Leisure named Turnberry as one of Europe’s top 30 hotels, so this will be another accolade to add to the trophy shelf.

The Turnberry Resort and the Ailsa Course are found on Scotland’s west coast in South Ayrshire. Designer Mackenzie Ross is credited with restoring the course to championship standards when it re opened in 1951 after World War II when the property was converted to an RAF airfield and hospital. Ailsa has staged The Open Championship on four occasions beginning in 1977 with the legendary showdown between Tom Watson and Jack Nicklaus remembered as the “Duel in the Sun”.
Watson’s weekend of 65-65 clipped Nicklaus’ 65-66. They both birdied 18 on Sunday; Nicklaus from 40 feet… Watson from 3! The 2009 British Open was more of the same – remarkably including the same but 59 year old Tom Watson – who came within an eyelash of becoming the oldest major champion in golf history. A visit to Turnberry would include regional clubs like Royal Troon, Prestwick, Western Gailes, Machrihanish and impressive Machrihanish Dunes; plus very often St Andrews for a west coast / east coast combination.

One of the challenges in selling travel has long been the ability to properly and fully communicate the myriad of options available during your vacation. While many golfers know the courses they wish to include, it is often helpful to spend a few moments reviewing the courses on video so that you are completely comfortable with your selection.
To aid in this process, we shall be adding many short videos of the most famous, and some not so famous links courses of Scotland over the coming months. Each one provides a great sense of the respective experience. The first video in our collection is the Ailsa Course at Turnberry…one of the most iconic settings in golf.
The videos are short in length as they are not intended to be course tours, but rather highlight the principal features and notoriety of the courses and permit each golfer to better educate themselves on the options and as a result, provide the very best possible travel experience to meet their wishes.

Turnberry Introduce Technology to the Dining Room
Turnberry Resort has become the very first hotel in Scotland to introduce iPad wine and beverage menus into their dining experience. The growing popularity of the tablet computer in the US has also been incorporated by Gordon Ramsay into his London “Maze Restaurant”.
Turnberry has invested in ten iPads which offer guests a colourful and interactive choice of beer, wine, cocktails and whiskies in their 1906 restaurant and The Ailsa Bar & Lounge.
The news of the upgraded menus at Turnberry comes after their launch of a range of well-known golfers’ wines; including the personal selection from John Daly, Retief Goosen and Arnold Palmer. These will be featured on the new menus.
