Video #11: The Old Course at St Andrews, Scotland

Old Course St Andrews ScotlandTruly it’s remarkable that the game of golf continues to revolve around the course that gave it birth over 600 years ago.  It’s all the more impressive when you consider that aside from some new tees and an irrigation system, nothing’s changed all that much at the world’s 4th ranked golf course since 1764 when 22 holes were reconfigured to 18. Meanwhile the game and its players have gone from the Stone Age to the Space Age, and yet, in July of 2015 the Old Course at St Andrews will host the Open Championship for the 29th time – a run that began in 1873.

Road Hole Restaurant’s New Dining Concept

In my opinion, the view from the Road Hole Restaurant in the Old Course Hotel, St Andrews is as good as it gets.  The floor-to-ceiling windows allow diners to look out over the 17th and 18th holes of the Old Course – and on a summer’s night (when the sun is shining) it really is hard to beat.  The 3 AA Rosette Awarded Restaurant’s menu has recently gone through extensive changes and they are now focused on the very best seasonal Scottish produce.  I’d strongly recommend that guests at the hotel sample the delights at least once during their stay – make sure to request a window table!

A Little Bit of Italy

Little Italy, St. Andrews

We are asked by many of our clients to recommend dining options for them, so it is always good to hear when clients really enjoy a particular dining experience.  One such restaurant that consistently receives  rave reviews from our clients is Little Italy in St. Andrews.  It is a small family run restaurant with an Italian owner who is passionate about food and serving great traditional favourites in a warm, bustling atmosphere.  The quality of food is such that we had a group of 8 guys there last night who promptly cancelled their reservations at a completely different restaurant for the following night so they could go back to Little Italy again!  I have eaten there myself and certainly agree that the food, wine and atmosphere are great.

Make sure you pay them a visit the next time you are in St. Andrews – might be best to book in advance though!

New Restaurant Opens in St. Andrews

Recently opened in St. Andrews on South Street is The Adamson restaurant; a great new addition to the already excellent dining options in St. Andrews.

The Adamson offers brasserie style dining and serves Scottish food with a contemporary twist.  I look forward to dining here and will review further once I have had the opportunity to sample the food and service!

Video #9: Kingsbarns Golf Links, St Andrews, Scotland

Golf dates to 1793 on the site where Kingsbarns Golf Links is found today, overlooking the North Sea 7 miles east of St Andrews.   Everything changed in 2000 when Kyle Phillips reinvented links golf with the opening here of the game’s first “modern classic” links layout.
