Trump International Golf Links, Aberdeen, Scotland
With great determination and mountains of money, a compelling new golf course has been created between Murcar and Cruden Bay along a three mile stretch of Scotland’s North Sea coastline –
…perhaps you’ve heard of it?
Designed by Dr. Martin Hawtree and opened in July 2012, the course follows a classic pattern of two out and back loops of nine holes. All 18 holes thread their way through the dunes, rising to find views of the sea and coastline and plunging into secluded valleys.
Mr. Trump is clearly a proud father but hyperbole aside; the dunes along the North Sea are among the grandest in the world. Hawtree used the most mountainous of them all for spectacular elevated tee boxes at No. 14 – a demanding par four, and No. 18 – a stunning par five punched with eighteen pot bunkers. There’s more than one signature hole here of course, like the beautiful par three third beside the beach and the 281-yard drivable seventh.
The clubhouse opened in June 2015 with The Donald himself flying in for the christening. The brawny 7,400-yard links which thankfully includes 5 or more sets of tees on every hole is ranked among the
top 50 courses in the world.
Located two hours north of St Andrews, an exceptional trio of courses not-to-miss include
Royal Aberdeen Golf Club, Cruden Bay Golf Club and Trump International Golf Links.
