11 Courses..1 day..65km/40miles..no buggies permitted – only walking/running..& carrying their clubs while playing to the rules of golf..No problem for these guys, especially when it’s to raise money for three incredible charities.  What’s the name of the event?

St Andrews 189 Hole Challenge

Graeme Dawson and Angus Watson of Fairmont St Andrews plus Gary Davidson and Alastair Love yesterday set a new world record for the fastest ever fourball round at the Old Course at St Andrews, completing it in 1 hour 1 minute and 15 seconds (just barely beating the previous record of 1 hour 4 minutes and 25 seconds)!  The new record was set upon finishing play at the Old Course, which made up only 1 of the 11 courses played in and around the St Andrews area.  The group teed off at 3:15AM yesterday morning and finally reached their goal of playing 189 holes of golf in one day when they finished the last hole at 11:40PM last night.  Courses played included:

  1. Kingsbarns Golf Links
  2. The Balgove
  3. The Old Course
  4. The Eden
  5. The Strathtyrum
  6. The Dukes
  7. The Torrance
  8. The Kittocks
  9. The Castle
  10. The Jubilee
  11. The New

What an achievement!  It was truly an amazing day, as remarkable support from the whole town as well as from the courses was shown to take excellent care of the group’s needs, which wasn’t limited to helping get other golfers out of their way!

Money raised from the event will be donated to three charities:

  • The Scottish Disability Golf Partnership
  • HCPT – The Pilgrimage Trust
  • Cancer Research UK

The fundraising target was £6,000.00; thus far, a spectacular £7,245.00 has already been raised!  The Home of Golf was host yesterday to the footsteps, and a lot of them, of these four champions for their success both on and off the golf course.  To set a new world record is excellent, but to excel in philanthropy by supporting such great causes is no less than Extraordinary.  Congratulations from PerryGolf!

Merion Golf Club vs Pine Valley Golf Club

Merion Golf Club - Photography by L. C. LambrechtCo-founder and President of PerryGolf – Gordon Dalgleish – was asked to write the piece “Which is Better? | Merion or Pine Valley” for the Summer 2013 edition of LINKS Magazine.

An insightful and timely article as The 113th U.S. Open Championship at Merion Golf Club is just around the corner, here’s an inside glance into the article:

Its incomparable championship history and taut test of shotmaking give this year’s U.S. Open site a decided edge” – Gordon Dalgleish

It takes either a brave or remarkably naive member to think he can mount a successful defense of his golf club in a faceoff with the number-one course in the world. Pine Valley has a storied and, in many respects, mythical history.

But speaking of history, my Merion has hosted four U.S. Open Championships, six U.S. Amateurs, four U.S. Women’s Amateurs, one World Amateur, a Walker Cup, and numerous other significant events. It was the fitting venue for Bobby Jones to begin his illustrious career—in the 1916 U.S. Amateur (as a 14 year old!)—and to conclude it with the completion of the Grand Slam (in the 1930 Amateur, on the 11th hole). And who could forget Ben Hogan’s heroic return to competitive golf when the iconic photo of his 1-iron approach on the 72nd hole of the 1950 U.S. Open hangs in clubhouses around the world?

New 2014 Escorted Tour to Australia Combines World 100 Golf with Iconic Sightseeing

We know, this has to be good. It’s a long way to Australia.

Fair enough; have a look below at “The Best of Australia 2014 (Escorted)”. If you like your vacation golf chosen from the upper echelon of world 100 clubs, and combined with fully escorted luxury itinerary that includes an equally impressive schedule of sightseeing, wine touring and spectacular natural beauty, we suspect you’ll agree this experience stands out.

You’ll play two of Dr. Alister MacKenzie’s most important four layouts; Royal Melbourne which is GOLF Magazine’s world 13 and New South Wales ranked 34 (pictured left). You’ll play the club that put Tom Doak on the map, in Tasmanian, at Barnbougle Dunes ranked 41.  Next door at Barnbougle Lost Farm we’ve got world 82 by Coore & Crenshaw.  Royal Melbourne neighbor Yarra Yarra is a founding member of the famed Sandbelt clubs whose design was shaped heavily by Dr. MacKenzie. We’ll see Doak’s work again at St Andrews Beach found in the heart of the Mornington Peninsula’s Cups Country.

Our tour begins officially with the Welcome Cocktail Party and Dinner on the day of arrival.  Sightseeing on Day 2 includes the famous Sydney Harbor Cruise (pictured top right) plus a guided tour of the spectacular Opera House.  Both are included in the price of the tour, along with four (4) additional sightseeing excursions.   Welcome and Farewell dinners plus six (6) additional “choice of menu” evening meals are included as well.  You’ll spend 11 nights in first class hotels like Tasmania’s The Lodge at Lost Farm, Melbourne’s Park Hyatt Hotel (pictured below), and Sydney’s Radisson Plaza Hotel.

Incredible Golf in New Zealand

From the Golf Channel, Jason Deegan writes, “”What distinguishes New Zealand golf from the U.S. is the courses are not part of the housing,” he said. “You can see the hills, the water, the mountains. The physical beauty of the courses is amplified by the surroundings. It’s a unique experience.”
