When is the Ryder Cup? – The 2014 Ryder Cup Dates Announced

The Ryder Cup will be held over the weekend of 26-28 September in 2014, it was announced earlier today.  The event, which will be held in Scotland for the first time since 1973 when it was at Muirfield, will be played over the PGA Centenary Course at Gleneagles.  Scotland’s First Minister, Alex Salmond, was “delighted to have seen […] the many exciting changes that are being made to improve this already outstanding golf course.   As well as the hi-tech efforts to reduce water on the greens, the Ryder Cup teams can expect many of the changes – proposed by Jack Nicklaus – to provide a sterner test as they seek glory during the competition.”

Keep your eyes peeled for the trips PerryGolf will be offering to what always proves to be a memorable tournament!

Restored James Braid Design for Taymouth Castle

We at PerryGolf are asked regularly by our clients to suggest hidden gem courses and courses that hark back to golf as it was played in the past as well as the new modern layouts.  I have read with interest plans to restore Taymouth Castle near Gleneagles back to its original James Braid design.  The course currently is ideal for a nice relaxing round in some stunning scenery so with the addition of the new improvements -including 2 holes along the banks of the River Tay – it promises to be a great layout and should be ready right on time for the Ryder Cup at Gleneagles in 2014. Technology Advances at Gleneagles

Any developments at Gleneagles are viewed with interest, especially with them due to host the Ryder Cup on its return to Europe in 2014.  From this article, it looks like they have found a solution (for greens anyway) of maintaining great course conditions in spite of difficult environmental factors.  I wonder how long it will be before we see this technology in more widespread use.

Andrew Fairlie Sources ‘Home-Grown’ Produce

Andrew Fairlie

Scotland’s only 2 Michelin-starred restaurant, Andrew Fairlie @ Gleneagles, boasts not only locally sourced produce from all over Scotland but also organically reared lamb which Andrew’s brother Jim rears on Harrietfield Farm; his own property close to Edinburgh.  Click here to read on.

Andrew Fairlie’s restaurant is a good enough reason alone to make a stay at Gleneagles a priority while vacationing in Scotland.

Advance reservations at the restaurant are essential as it is always busy – your Golf Travel Specialist would be pleased to make these reservations on your behalf.

The Nail Bar at Gleneagles

When we heard in the office that the Gleneagles Hotel had added a very smart and trendy Nail Bar to the facilities, we were looking forward to trying it out on our next visit.  So imagine my delight when an invitation arrived from an old friend to join her and some other friends for a girlie weekend at the hotel to celebrate her 50th birthday!  The Nail Bar can be hired for such occasions and what a time we had choosing between the ‘Be Glamorous’ and ‘Be Gorgeous’ packages which include champagne.   The Nail Bar team were great fun and very patient and helpful as we chose our colours, patterns, etc from the range of designs and finishes in Shellac and Minx ranges.

We were all delighted with the results and trotted happily off to afternoon tea in the Braid’s Coffee Lounge clutching our glamorous beauty gift from the range.
