New Restaurants at Rusacks, St Andrews

Dining in St. Andrews offers several excellent places to eat; MacDonald Rusacks Hotel (located right next to the 18th hole of the Old Course) is now certainly one of them.  The hotel has opened two new restaurants on site; restaurateur Adrian Pieraccini has joined in partnership with Macdonald Hotels to create the new restaurant Rocca (which opened in February 2010) and has panoramic views over the 18th hole.  Rocca is an Italian classic style grill restaurant with an excellent a la carte menu – they pride themselves on using the best Scottish and local produce.  The young energetic kitchen team is led by head chef Liam McKenna – who 3 years ago won the distinction award of The Martin Wishart Scottish chef scholarship.

The second restaurant is The One Under and is St. Andrew’s one and only gastro pub.  This was also developed by Adrian Pieraccini and was introduced in December 2009.  Accurate to the meaning of ‘gastro pub’, the main focus here is on the quality of the food.

This is the perfect place to relax after a long day on the golf course so I would say that during your stay in St Andrews a visit to either of these restaurants is highly recommended!

Dining at Cameron House Hotel on Loch Lomond

If you happen to be staying in the Loch Lomond  area or are playing at the Carrick Golf Course, might I suggest you stop by the Cameron House Hotel for lunch or dinner.  With 4 different dining areas to decide from, you’re bound to find an experience to suit your mood or occasion.

Martin Wishart at Loch Lomond opened in 2008 and is the hotel’s fine dining restaurant which offers a classic, chic setting in which to enjoy the fine food on offer.  The Boathouse is a New England style restaurant placed in a picturesque position by the water’s edge while The Cameron Grill is a more informal dining experience set in a contemporary atmosphere and showcases an open feature kitchen and walk-in wine cellar.  Finally, The Claret Jug; this is the golf club house, but do not be put off by this, it is a stylish and relaxed eating area which presents local, timeless fare.  So now all you have to do is decide which restaurant to go for –whichever you choose, you will not be disappointed!

Dining at Zizzi Restaurant in St. Andrews

Whenever I am staying in St. Andrews, I always make a point of visiting the Zizzi Restaurant for either lunch or dinner.

It is a casual setting serving excellent Italian food in four distinct sections of antipasti, salads, the mains (including pizza, pasta and risotto) and a selection of desserts, all within reasonable pricing.  Having not been to any of the other outlets, I can only comment on the warm ambience and bustling atmosphere of St. Andrews’ own Zizzi Restaurant situated on South Street.

Last summer, while staying in the Fairmont Hotel just outside of St. Andrews town, my partner and I decided to dine there of an evening…and we were not disappointed.  The Bruschetta  with tomatoes and basil served on toasted garlic ciabatta was so good I could of eaten another serving…but I managed to hold off for my main of Pollo Prosciutto – chicken breast wrapped in prosciutto ham and sage and cooked in white wine – amazing!  Not often opting for a dessert, I changed my mind on this occasion and decided to order the Chocolate Melt and only stopped eating when I realised I couldn’t possibly make room for anything else.  All of this was offered with the accompaniment of a great wine list.  I should mention that there really is a great choice of food and drink on the menu and I’m sure that there is something for everyone there.

Albert Roux brings Two New Restaurants to Scotland

In the next few months, the famous French Chef, Albert Roux, will be opening 2 new restaurants in Scotland.  This is in addition to his already successful restaurant at the Rocpool Reserve in Inverness.

The first restaurant is due to open in April and will be set in a remote town in the North West of Scotland, (click here for more details).  This isolated location means that many of our clients may not get the opportunity to dine there as the closest area which clients regularly utilize is Dornoch which is 1 hour and 30 minutes away.  The second restaurant, which will open at the famous Greywalls Hotel (on the edge of Muirfield Golf Course), is set to open in May.  Greywalls is set on the outskirts of Gullane and is in a great location for many championship courses which are within 5 miles of the hotel.  Having the latest Albert Roux restaurant in the hotel is sure to make Greywalls an even more appealing place to stay.

The 3 restaurants which Albert Roux will have in Scotland come under the Chez Roux banner which prides itself on fresh Scottish ingredients with a French twist.

Cellar Restaurant – St. Andrews

The Cellar Restaurant is a favorite of mine and is one of the finest Seafood Restaurants in Scotland. A short drive from St.Andrews you will find it tucked behind Anstruther’s Scottish Fisheries Museum, just off the harbour front. You enter the 17th century listed building via a pretty cobbled courtyard garden, before receiving a warm welcome from owners Peter and Susan Jukes. With its original beams, tiled floor and candle-lit tables, the dining room provides the perfect setting for a great night out.
