Fairmont St. Andrews receives Top Honour

At the recent Golf Tourism Scotland awards ceremony, The Fairmont Hotel in St. Andrews was named the ‘Resort Hotel of the Year’.

The Fairmont is one of PerryGolf’s preferred hotel partners and quite rightly so.  It is somewhere we have used extensively over the past season and we plan to do so for many seasons to come.  Located on the outskirts of the town, the hotel sits on the summit of a spectacular cliff formation in a commanding location overlooking the River Tay estuary, the North Sea, the Fife countryside and the medieval skyline of St. Andrews.  Click here for more details.

Scottish Open to move to Links Course

One of the biggest tournaments on the European Tour calendar is set to move venue in a bid to lure some of the world’s biggest stars.  The tournament, which is held the week before The Open Championship, is currently based at Loch Lomond GC and has been there since 1996.  Loch Lomond is one of the best courses in the world but as it is a parkland style course; some bigger name players prefer to practice on a links course the week prior to the Open Championship. There has been speculation as to who the main contenders are and it seems as though it has been narrowed to 2 potential candidates – Castle Stuart near Inverness or The Renaissance Club in East Lothian.  The Renaissance Club is the more mature of the two, having been open for two seasons, a pretty remarkable stat for the two main contenders for this highly regarded event.

Westwood Topples Tiger

After more than 5 years dominating the world rankings, Tiger Woods has at last been toppled from the number one position by England’s Lee Westwood.  There is no question that Tiger’s ‘off course’ issues have affected his decline in form, but it was still no mean feat on Westwood’s behalf as Tiger was so far ahead in the rankings.  I personally think that Westwood’s consistency over the last couple of years, especially in the Majors, has vindicated his position at the top of the rankings and I think that it’s refreshing for the game.
