There’s still time to plan your golf trip this year
Northwest England. Scottish Highlands. Northwest Ireland.
As we continue 2024 with pent-up demand for golf travel to the British Isles on the most famous of links courses, we thought it would be useful to provide some insight into alternatives that currently have better availability and deliver similarly memorable British golf experiences.
Although our guaranteed tee times in 2024 on the Old Course at St Andrews have been sold out for many months and several other marquee courses have limited to no availability, there is still plenty of world class golf to be played on golf packages throughout the British Isles this year.
Have a look below at three of our favorite golf regions that still have availability in 2024.
Northwest England Golf Packages
Highlights: Unpack once and play 3 Open rota courses
Featured Courses: Royal Liverpool, Royal Birkdale and Royal Lytham & St Anne’s
Arguably the best collection of links courses in close proximity to each other, this region of England contains three Open venues – Royal Birkdale (World #42 by Golf.com), Royal Liverpool (World #93) and Royal Lytham & St Annes (World #74) – plus a plethora of high quality, lesser-known courses. In addition to the benefit of being able to stay in one hotel to access all of the courses, Manchester Airport is 60 minutes away and provides a number of convenient trans-Atlantic flight options.

Scottish Highlands Golf Packages
Highlights: Whisky distilleries & castles
Featured Courses: Royal Dornoch, Cruden Bay & Castle Stuart
The Highlands of Scotland delivers a very different landscape than the central belt. While the interior of the country provides lush and dramatic countryside, the linksland alongside the North Sea is well suited to the needs of golfers. Royal Dornoch (World #10), Castle Stuart (World #89), Nairn, Cruden Bay (World #56) & Royal Aberdeen are testaments to the quality and individuality of each course. Not to be overlooked is the concentration of whisky produced in Speyside which complements a perfect day’s golf, plus round out your trip with a visit to Dunrobin Castle.

Northwest Ireland Golf Packages
Highlights: Remarkable coastline scenery & impeccable value
Featured Courses: St Patrick’s Links, Ballyliffin and Narin & Portnoo
As Irish golf has grown over the last many decades, the northwest area of the country has developed an enviable collection of great links courses, that unfortunately have been overlooked too often by international visitors. That is changing, for very good reasons. The new Tom Doak course at Rosapenna (St Patrick’s Links – World #49) and the refurbished Narin & Portnoo Links (by Gil Hanse) have added internationally acclaimed golf course architects to the myriad of great reasons to travel to this glorious coastline.
