PerryGolf vs Turnberry

Ewan Grant teeing off on the 8th

Yesterday was the date for the 2011 golf match where a team from PerryGolf take on a team from Turnberry.  This event has been running for the last 7 years and has taken in venues such as Turnberry, Machrihanish Dunes, Shiskine (on the isle of Arran) and PerryGolf’s home course of Helensburgh.  This year’s event took place at Rothesay Golf Club on the isle of Bute; a very scenic course that overlooks the island and Firth of Clyde.  The day started with a short ferry trip to the island followed by bacon rolls and, of course, a beer in the clubhouse before teeing off.

We had a great day as the weather was warm and sunny with little wind and a fun course offering some challenging holes.  I am pleased to say PerryGolf won this year to break a poor run of form over the past 2 years.  A tasty dinner in the clubhouse afterwards, some more pints (of course), a return ferry journey and the day was complete and enjoyed by all!

Fathers and Sons

I was with a number of friends this past weekend whom had taken a Father & Son trip to Scotland last fall. They were telling me how much they enjoyed the experience and camaraderie. One story, told by a gentleman who has been extremely successful in business was wonderfully simple and cut at the heart of these generational trips.

Having paid for the land cost and airfare for his son, the father was having a conversation with his 26 year old, gainfully employed offspring prior to the trip about what his thoughts were on expenses during the trip. Father makes some suggestions on who should cover what expenses and what may be appropriate for junior to cover.

At this point, the son looks at his father and quizzically asks; “Dad, do you want me to go on the trip?”. The division of expenses dialogue was over!

Davis Love III named US Ryder Cup Captain

Both captains for the 2012 Ryder Cup in Medinah have now been announced and I believe that both are very worthy selections.  The ‘not so’ big secret of Davis Love III’s appointment was announced yesterday and he will lead the US team against Jose Maria Olazabal and the Europeans when the two meet again next year.  As a veteran of 6 Ryder Cups, as a player, and as vice captain to Corey Pavin, Davis is highly qualified for the job of trying to wrestle the Ryder Cup back from Europe.  Click here for more details.
