A Little Bit of Italy

Little Italy, St. Andrews

We are asked by many of our clients to recommend dining options for them, so it is always good to hear when clients really enjoy a particular dining experience.  One such restaurant that consistently receives  rave reviews from our clients is Little Italy in St. Andrews.  It is a small family run restaurant with an Italian owner who is passionate about food and serving great traditional favourites in a warm, bustling atmosphere.  The quality of food is such that we had a group of 8 guys there last night who promptly cancelled their reservations at a completely different restaurant for the following night so they could go back to Little Italy again!  I have eaten there myself and certainly agree that the food, wine and atmosphere are great.

Make sure you pay them a visit the next time you are in St. Andrews – might be best to book in advance though!

Souter Johnnie’s tragically Burns Down

One of PerryGolf’s favorite restaurants in Ayrshire, Souter Johnnie’s, sadly burned down on Tuesday night.  It is thought that the thatched roof caught fire from flaming embers from one of its chimneys.  The popular restaurant is located on the site of the Robert Burns School House and had recently gone through an extensive refurbishment.  Everyone at PerryGolf hopes to see it fully restored to all of its glory as soon as possible.

Video #10: North Berwick, East Lothian, Scotland

They don’t make them like this anymore.  North Berwick (pronounced “bear-ick”) was founded with six holes in 1832.  A seventh was added sometime before 1868 when three more were built and one taken away.  The resulting nine holes stood unchanged until 1877 when the addition of nine more produced eighteen that no one particularly cared for.  At 4,841 yards it was too short even for hickories so an extension to 6,095 yards was completed in 1895 which was stretched to 6,464 in 1932 where the club stands today.   It will host its sixth Final Qualifier next summer when the Open is played at Muirfield.

Kintyre Course at Turnberry, Scotland

Gary at the 6th Tee on The Kintyre

It goes without saying that the Ailsa Course at Turnberry is a class above its sister course the Kintyre.  It’s ranked as one of the best in the world, it’s on the current Open Championship Rota, and it’s been the scene of some of the most memorable finishes to Open Championships in years gone by.

However, having played the Kintyre Course recently, I’d strongly recommend it for the traveller seeking extra golf wherever possible.  Along the Ayrshire Coast, you have the Ailsa, Royal Troon, Prestwick, Western and Glasgow Gailes, and not far behind on the list, I’d put the Kintyre.  For those staying at Turnberry, the Kintyre Course is an ideal addition to your schedule.  The course is onsite, riding carts are available, and it’s a strong course in its own right.

New Restaurant Opens in St. Andrews

Recently opened in St. Andrews on South Street is The Adamson restaurant; a great new addition to the already excellent dining options in St. Andrews.

The Adamson offers brasserie style dining and serves Scottish food with a contemporary twist.  I look forward to dining here and will review further once I have had the opportunity to sample the food and service!
