Playing the Old Course at St Andrews in 2014

As sure as the summer begins to draw to a close, it is almost time to start making plans for next summer and securing a tee time on the Old Course at St Andrews. As I have written previously, with a thorough explanation about how to play the Old Course, the early September deadline is drawing closer.

One minor, but significantly helpful change has been moving the opening time for applications from 10am in Scotland (5 am on the East Coast) to 2pm (a more agreeable 9am on the East Coast!).

With the Ryder Cup in Scotland in 2014 and the Open Championship returning to the Old Course in 2015, I think it is fair to assume that demand to play at the “Home of Golf” will continue to far outstrip available supply, thus appropriate planning is the order of the day and now is the time to get commitments from your prospective travel partners.

Castle Stuart Golf Links and Scottish Open Basics

PerryGolf clients in front of Castle Stuart ClubhouseThere’s a case, often made, that Royal Dornoch alone is worth a journey to the Highlands. It is of course but treasure hunting links golfers will be pleased now to find new loot at Castle Stuart.  Opened for play in July 2009 with instant honors from Golf Magazine as the “Best New International Course” of the year, Castle Stuart is the work of Americans Mark Parsinen (Kingsbarns) and Gil Hanse.
