Win a trip to the 2014 British Open at Royal Liverpool from Glenmorangie

Glenmorangie is known for their well made single malt whiskeys – but is now searching for the world’s most “Unnecessarily Well Made” golf courses.  Every golfer has a favorite golf course – maybe it’s because you had a great round there or watched a Major there or just really enjoy the layout of the course.  They want to find out which course that may be, and to help do so have brought four established professionals on board to help as ambassadors.

PerryGolf’s South African Travellers

Had a lovely report back from one of our South African groups who recently had a great trip to Ireland.   Some of the highlights were staying and playing at the Lodge at Doonbeg, the pubs and camaraderie in Killarney, and the spectacular Old Head Golf Links which literally nearly blew them away!  One of the special moments…arriving at Waterville Golf Links where the South African flag was raised in their honour, followed by a fantastic round there.  Oh and they enjoyed the Guinness too!

New Zealand – What About After My Round?

Not to state the obvious, but New Zealand is a fantastic destination for golfers and non-golfers alike.  Yes it does have fantastic golf courses; especially in the shape of Kauri Cliffs, Wairakei, Cape Kidnappers, Jack’s Pint and The Hills to name but a few; but it also offers some great activities for when you are not on the course.  In the Bay of Islands you can cruise around the little islands off the coast, in Taupo see the awesome Huka Falls, in Napier take in a selection of great wineries and in Queenstown see some of the most beautiful scenery in the world.  The Remarkables mountain range is on your doorstep and stunning Milford Sound is just a short flight over the Southern Alps.

Another activity that I had to do when I was there…a bungee jump!  I understand it is not for everyone but bungee jumping originates (commercially anyway) in Queenstown so it was a must for me to do this at the original Kawarau Bridge site which is just a short drive out of Queenstown.  I booked it the day before to avoid being disappointed however this did lead to a somewhat sleepless night beforehand.  On arrival you register and make your way out to the bridge where, after a short wait and being harnessed safely, you are led out on the platform.  Then it is up to you.  I found it best not to think about it at all and just go for it. The sensation is incredible and as close to flying as I can image.  If you are in need of some persuasion to have a go I can tell you it also does wonders to rejuvenate a tired back after golf!

Video #11: The Old Course at St Andrews, Scotland

Old Course St Andrews ScotlandTruly it’s remarkable that the game of golf continues to revolve around the course that gave it birth over 600 years ago.  It’s all the more impressive when you consider that aside from some new tees and an irrigation system, nothing’s changed all that much at the world’s 4th ranked golf course since 1764 when 22 holes were reconfigured to 18. Meanwhile the game and its players have gone from the Stone Age to the Space Age, and yet, in July of 2015 the Old Course at St Andrews will host the Open Championship for the 29th time – a run that began in 1873.
