Do you Love a Golf Challenge?

I love a golf challenge…and this is certainly a challenge!  Legend Golf & Safari Resort in South Africa offers a golfing experience that must be on the bucket list!

It’s called the “Extreme 19th” and is accessible only by helicopter with the tee set 400m up on the majestic Hanglip Mountain and played to a green the shape of Africa some 400m below.  Click here to view the video of Padriag Harrington; the first person to make a Par 3.

Make Time to Visit Scotland’s Capital City

Edinburgh is a great city to visit on any golf trip; on offer are fantastic sights like Edinburgh Castle and excellent dining and shops to keep everyone happy!  In October of this year, the extensive refurbishment work started on Caledonian Hilton.  The hotel will go through many changes which will include the creation of a courtyard lounge, the relocation of the main hotel restaurant and a substantial investment in upgrading the hotels bedrooms.  The refurbishment is due to be complete in the summer of 2012; the 254 bedroom hotel will rebrand as The Caledonian, A Waldorf Astoria Hotel.

Ardglass Golf Club Win Award

Congratulations to Ardglass Golf Club who recently won Irish Golf Tour Operators Association (IGTOA) Links Golf Course of the Year 2011.  Located in Northern Ireland, the club is a great addition to a golf schedule in that area and for groups looking at 36 holes, it could easily be combined with a morning round on Royal County Down.  To read more on the club’s award, please click here.

When is the Ryder Cup? – The 2014 Ryder Cup Dates Announced

The Ryder Cup will be held over the weekend of 26-28 September in 2014, it was announced earlier today.  The event, which will be held in Scotland for the first time since 1973 when it was at Muirfield, will be played over the PGA Centenary Course at Gleneagles.  Scotland’s First Minister, Alex Salmond, was “delighted to have seen […] the many exciting changes that are being made to improve this already outstanding golf course.   As well as the hi-tech efforts to reduce water on the greens, the Ryder Cup teams can expect many of the changes – proposed by Jack Nicklaus – to provide a sterner test as they seek glory during the competition.”

Keep your eyes peeled for the trips PerryGolf will be offering to what always proves to be a memorable tournament!

Former World Number 1 Struggling for PGA Tour Card

During the same weekend that Tiger Woods won the winning point in the Presidents Cup for America, and plenty of money was being won in Asia, little publicity was given to another former world number 1 golfer from the US plying his trade in Southern California simply to try and keep his PGA Tour Card.

David Duval, who topped the rankings in 1998, had 11 wins in 34 tournaments between 1997 and 1999 (including eagling the 18th for a 59 to win the 1999 Bob Hope event) and who won the 2001 British Open at Royal Lytham, has had an almighty fall from grace; yet he still has the determination and will to face qualifying school, despite the fact his successful past would gain him plenty of tournament invitations next year.  He finished the weekend in second place, but with another 108 holes still left to play before a tour place can be secured, he’s still a long way from success…but at least it’s a step in the right direction.

Compare Duval’s efforts to those of John Daly, who refuses to attend qualifying school and relies heavily on tournament invitations, only to walk off the course when things aren’t going great, and you can’t help but admire the man.  Regardless of whether or not Duval makes it through tour school, he will certainly not lack any support when and wherever he plays next season.
